Dress Code:

A dress code is important, not only because it is part of the tradition of formal dance training and creates uniformity, but also because putting on the "gear" helps the dancer mentally prepare for the class ahead. This is as true for small children as it is for young adults. Legacy Studios' dress code is not only designed to be in keeping with dress codes around the country and other parts of the world, it is also meant to accommodate the challenges of today's economy. The studio does have a connection with several NC retailers, and may be able to assist with ordering. Because our students in the Student Division Ballet Levels Intro to Ballet - Ballet 5 may be participating in examinations this year, we are conforming to the dress code required by American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum. Our recommended dance retailers have our dress code requirements and can assist you in finding the right garments for your dancer. At this time, the leotard, skirts and boys/men's wear can only be purchased at Dance Design in Chapel Hill NC.

A dancer's hair is as much a part of the dancer's uniform as the tights, leotard and shoes. For females with long hair, the hair must be placed securely in a bun. A hairnet may be helpful but is not required. If hair is too short for a bun, it must be pulled off the face. Males' hair must be neat. If it is long enough, hair should be pulled back into a ponytail. Hip Hop classes are the exception. As long as the hair does not interfere with dancing, students may wear whatever style they wish.

**If dress code requirements are not met, a reminder note will be sent home to the parents or guardians and students will only be allowed to observe class.**

You may wear whatever you like but the teacher MUST be able to see your knees. Just remember the more of you we can see, the better we can help you become a stronger dancer!
Once a month, we will have a "Wear Anything Week" at which time all students may wear whatever dancewear they like. Dance shoes are still a requirement however!!!

Leg warmers and short-shorts may be worn by dancers in Levels 1-- Adult as long as it does NOT prevent the instructor from seeing your alignment.

Recitals:

We at Legacy Studios believe in the importance of performance since dance is a performing art, but we have opted not to have formal, end-of-year recitals. Instead, we will give studio performances throughout the year on-site, and will provide a spring concert at the Carolina Theater in downtown Durham.

Inclement Weather:

Legacy Studios will follow the Durham Public Schools Inclement Weather Policy. If they are closed, we are closed. You can sign up to be notified in case of closings or delays due to adverse weather conditions by following this link. Please call the studio office 919-680-4363 for weather updates that could affect weekend classes.

Studio Rental:

Legacy Studios for the Performing Arts is delighted to be the rental space of choice for many local (and some not so local) groups. We offer the most affordable rates for our spacious, sprung floored studios as well as having a welcoming environment for all groups. Both dance studios have upright pianos, mirrors, ceiling fans and full sound systems. The cost for the spaces is as follows: Studio 1, 30 X 30 rents for $30/hour; Studio 2, 30 X 40 rents for $40/hour. If your group needs access to our kitchen with full-size fridge, microwave and sink the cost is an additional $10/hour in addition to the studio rental cost.

Our policies for rental at this time:

The complete amount of the rental must be paid for the space PRIOR to the use of the space.

LSPA may request a refundable deposit for use of the space.

LSPA may require one of our staff members to monitor the use of the studio; the hourly rental rate for the staff member would be the responsibility of the renting party.

No food or drinks other than water is allowed in the space.

No street shoes or any other shoes that have been worn outside.

Studios must be returned to the condition in which they were found or better.
