Wecome to Legacy Studios for the Performing Arts, Durham’s premier academy for classical ballet, pointe, modern, aerial, flamenco, and tap. Our instructors have been individually selected for their outstanding teaching and artistic abilities. We also feature guest artists from the Carolina Ballet, Gaspard Louis & Company, and the Aerial Angels, among others.
Legacy students have performed with professional companies such as Carolina Ballet, Missouri Ballet Theatre and Long Leaf Opera and pre-professional companies, Legacy Repertory Company and Triangle Youth Ballet. Legacy students have been accepted at nationally known dance programs such as University of North Carolina School of the Arts, American Ballet Theatre, the Rock School of Dance Education, Miami City Ballet, Carolina Ballet Summer Intensive, Virginia School of the Arts, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Bossov Ballet Theatre for both summer and year round programs.
All of our ballet and pointe classes are taught using the American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum. This curriculum is a breakthrough 8 level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development using a comprehensive set of age appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to dance students of all ages and skill levels. All of our ballet instructors are versed in this technique and Mr. Terry and Ms. Willis-Zeger are certified in all 8 levels of the curriculum.
Legacy would like to congratulate instructors Kathy Reeves and Andrea Wolfe for earning their certification from ABT training for Pre-Primary through Level 3!
Congrats Ms. Kathy and Ms. Andrea!
Why Legacy Studios for the Performing Arts?
Here are some thoughts from a couple of our parents on why they chose Legacy for the dancing children.
From Deanna O
High-quality and serious (yet fun and caring) instruction in a non-competitive environment.
Proper & safe technique training with a very focused, yet reasonable, approach to instruction.
Preparing students for college/career level dance applications (but allowing for a variety of skill levels from novice to advanced).
Emphasis on the discipline of dance as an art, but still flexible to accommodate and motivate different personalities.
Instructors who take a personal interest and want the student to succeed as a dancer.
Best for hard-working students & families willing to make significant commitments to produce impressive results.
From Kevin & Beth M-K
The training and 1-1 attention to details are far superior to any other dance studio in the area.
The level of expertise of the Legacy instructors is unsurpassed in the triangle area.
We like that Legacy takes a holistic approach to dance. Legacy teaches students about the impact of dance on the body and how students should take care of themselves.
Dancers are not just moved along. They have to demonstrate they can master one level before moving to the next level.
If you don't want to be a professional dancer, Legacy won't "short change" you. You'll still get high level and attention to details instruction.
